The Coventry Lions Club was founded in 1958 to serve the community in the northern part of Chester County, Pennsylvania. We are one of 46,000 local Lions Clubs, all sharing a mission – to serve the less fortunate, and in particular to help meet the needs of blind and visually impaired citizens.
We are an active club, with about 20 committed members and a variety of activities, including screening young children for sight-threatening eye problems through the KidSight program; sponsoring Leo and Lion Cubs youth organizations in the Owen J. Roberts School District; delivering holiday dinner baskets to needy families in our area; supporting the Leader Dog program of Lions International; providing funding for eye exams and glasses for children and senior citizens in need; highway cleanup; collecting used eyeglasses for reuse; and a Medical Equipment Loan program.
Our primary fundraiser is the annual Chester County Blues Barbeque. It is held in early June each year and attracts more than 1,000 visitors to hear three great Blues Bands and enjoy local barbeque and other tasty foods. We raise funds to enable us to contribute to Lions International causes, ranging from vision programs to international disaster relief, and to help other local organizations with their service missions. We also fund a yearly scholarship awarded to an Owen J. Roberts senior who exhibits a commitment to community service.
