KidSight Report

E-mail Print PDF

The Coventry Lions KidSight Screening Team had 21 screening dates and screened children at seventeen day care and preschools in the Owen J. Roberts Community during the 2014-15 fiscal year.

For the past two years the Coventry Lions Club has held eye screening exams for the day care and pre-schools in our communities. Our club uses a Spot PediaVision Camera, a top of the line Vision Screening Camera specifically designed for screening children. Spot is powered by sophisticated technology that quickly detects the indication of the following vision issues:Near-sightedness (myopia) Far-sightedness (hyperopia) Unequal refractive power (anisometropia) Blurred vision, eye structure problem (astigmatism) Pupil size deviations (anisocoria) Eye misalignment (strabismus) or - Amblyopia commonly known as “lazy eye”. In just seconds, Spot provides a comprehensive, reliable analysis that enables informed decision making about the need for a follow-up diagnosis.

This school year the Coventry Lions Club and their youth clubs - the Lion Cubs - got alot of help from the students and families of the school district. Food drives were held three times this year; each before an upcoming school holiday - Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Three of the elementary schools continued the tradition of having their second grade classes hold an annual food drive to help feed the disadvantaged. Two other schools included their whole school; grades kindergarten to sixth to join in the 'giving". These food drives had followed a district wide food drive “Make a Difference Day” to replenish the shelves of the Coventry Pantry.

Lions of Love Live On

E-mail Print PDF

Fireman and EMT Andy Inhof (left) holds two of the Lions of Love donated to the Goodwill Firehouse by Coventry Lions Club.                             Also pictured are Lion Ken Swart; Paramedic, Robin Yerger; Lionette Leah Kinzinger and Medical Director, Doctor Molly Furin

Last year the Coventry Lions Club initiated the Lions of Love Program. Stuffed animals - lions - were adorned with a Coventry Lions Club scarf. Thirty Lions were delivered to Goodwill Ambulance (servicing Pottstown and the Coventries). The Lions are carried in the ambulances to be given to any children who may be traumatized due to a fire, accident etc.

The thirty Lions were distributed and replaced by an additional thirty Lions before the end of last year. Getting near the end of the Lion supply more Lions were obtained and scarved (by Christina Bober - Lion Chris Bober's daughter). These lions were delivered the week of Valentines Day to continue this very successful and worthwhile project.

We discussed the importance of spreading cheer throughout the holidays, no matter your beliefs. At the end of the meeting, we offered an "out of school" opportunity for the students to meet Ms. Feldman at Sunrise of Exton.  On Tuesday, December 23rd several member of the West Vincent Lion Cubs met at Sunrise of Exton and sang songs, talked with residents and spread holiday cheer.
